The Palm Springs Air Museum is a top-notch museum located at Palm Springs International Airport in California.

Among its notable exhibits is the Boeing Skyfox, a remarkable example of aviation innovation. This overhaul involved replacing the T-33’s Allison J33 turbojet with dual Garrett TFE731-3A turbofan engines, enhancing efficiency without sacrificing performance.

The Skyfox also featured a sleek, fighter-like design with under-wing hardpoints for simulated attack exercises, aligning it with modern jets.

Despite its strong Lockheed heritage, the Skyfox project did not secure enough funding for further development, even with Boeing’s involvement.

Today, the Palm Springs Air Museum is home to the only existing Skyfox prototype, which is undergoing meticulous restoration by dedicated volunteers to preserve its historical value.

Once completed, the Skyfox will stand as a testament to aviation ingenuity, providing visitors with a look into a fascinating chapter of aerospace history and enriching the museum’s extensive collection.
