Several years ago, a Harley-Davidson XL1200C Sportster from the 2006 model year underwent a significant transformation. Boasting 79 pound-feet (107 Nm) of torque from its robust Evolution V-twin motor, the bike proved to be an excellent mechanical donor.

However, its suspension, brakes, bodywork, exhaust system, wheels, and much of the cockpit equipment were replaced during the initial teardown. South Garage was left with a blank canvas for customization, and the first notable change was the handmade aluminum attire.

The centerpiece was a stunning fuel tank gracefully arching over the V-twin engine, featuring a Monza-style filler cap. A cafe racer tail with a stylish leather saddle followed, complemented by custom side covers and a plain front fender.

Ohlins suspension components were chosen, including premium forks at the front and dual shocks with piggyback reservoirs at the rear, along with Brembo brakes for extra stopping power.

The ergonomics were enhanced with bespoke CNC-machined foot pegs and a one-piece handlebar fitted with aftermarket controls and Biltwell grips. A single Motogadget dial served as the instrumentation.

Snazzy intake and exhaust modifications were made, with air flowing through a forward-facing pod filter and combustion by-products expelled via custom two-into-one pipework. The livery featured glossy burgundy and brushed alloy finishes, with the wheels and frame painted black to accentuate the bodywork. The completed cafe racer, named Kimera, was a testament to South Garage’s craftsmanship.
