The RW-5 Voxan, a groundbreaking electric motorcycle, recently made headlines by shattering four speed records at the Bonneville Salt Flats. Developed by the Ohio State University and the Venturi Group, this high performance machine boasts a liquid-cooled permanent magnet axial flux motor and a lithium-ion battery.
Despite its relatively modest power output of 107 horsepower and 180 Nm of torque, the Voxan’s lightweight design (under 331 pounds) gives it a remarkable edge in speed. With its exceptional performance and innovative technology, the RW-5 Voxan is poised to redefine the future of electric motorcycles.
The Venturi Voxan, a hydrogen powered motorcycle, recently made history at Bonneville Salt Flats. The bike, ridden by Louis Marie Blondel, set four new speed records in the under-150 kg class. With the fairing on, the Voxan reached speeds of 168.712 mph and 168.593 mph over one kilometer and one mile, respectively.
Without the fairing, it achieved speeds of 180.065 mph and 180.035 mph for the same distances. These records are currently being reviewed by the FIM for validation. This latest achievement adds to the impressive track record of the Venturi Voxan.
The bike has previously set multiple speed records, including the world record for the fastest hydrogen vehicle in 2010. The Venturi VBB-2 reached a top speed of 303.025 mph, and subsequent models, the VBB 2.5 and VBB-3, have also set records in the electric category.
