BMW Commences Special Edition Farewell Tour for Manual M3 Models

The initial phase of bidding farewell to manually shiftable BMW M3 models has commenced. Introduced as a send-off tribute, the BMW M3 MT Final Edition has made its debut in Japan, marking the inception of a process likely to extend to other markets shortly, though not currently applicable to American or European buyers.

While enthusiasts clamor to preserve the manual transmission, Dirk Hacker, BMW M’s head of development, expresses uncertainty about the availability of suppliers for manual transmissions in the foreseeable future. Thus, the present moment presents an opportune time for enthusiasts to secure their manual transmission-equipped M cars.

Distinguishing the JDM special edition from standard M3 sedans are the bespoke staggered 19-inch front and 20-inch rear Style 826M wheels, adorned in a striking golden bronze hue, complemented by red M compound brake calipers.

Notably reminiscent of wheels from the BMW M3 CS and M4 CSL, these wheels eschew the slightly different Style 827M variant, likely to maintain their unique allure.

However, it’s worth noting that this special edition is based on the pre-LCI (pre-facelift) M3, foregoing the latest updates soon to be revealed for the M3 lineup.

As a parting gesture, one might anticipate the inclusion of optional M Carbon bucket seats, yet BMW has opted for standard sports seats, accentuated by bright red detailing against black Merino leather, reminiscent of the E30 M3 that clinched the 1989 DTM championship for Team Schnitzer.

Limited to just three exterior color options—Black Sapphire metallic, M Brooklyn Gray metallic, and Alpine White—the choices may appear rather conservative. Regardless of color selection, the vehicle bears a striking resemblance to an M3 CS replica.

However, opinions on this aspect may vary, especially considering the engine specifications. With a modest 473 horsepower output, this special edition falls short of the enhanced power of the new M4 Competition.

Production will be limited to 50 units of each color, with a lottery system in place should demand exceed 150 interested customers. Optional equipment is not offered, and with a price tag of ¥14.2 million (approximately $95,845), the special edition commands a premium.
