Mercedes’ all-electric midsize crossover type is the EQE SUV, and the firm has huge hopes for the top-performance model.

Mercedes unveiled the EQE SUV for the 2023 model year, revealing that its performance-oriented AMG variant would be ready in 2024. The Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV is the company’s first all-electric crossover model.

Like all-new Mercedes electric car models, the AMG EQE SUV has a sumptuous cabin and plenty of technology, including a striking Hyperscreen display. The cabin is a step up from the Tesla Model X, and the Dolby Atmos sound system will make you feel like you’re in the front row at a concert.

2024 Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV Interior

The interior of the Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV is nearly comparable to that of the AMG EQE Sedan, with its optional Hyperscreen, turbine-like ventilation vents, and luxurious finishes. When seated behind the wheel, the elevated driving position will be one of the only ways to distinguish the two distinct.

The glittering interior will thrill or turn off new buyers accustomed to Mercs from even five years ago.

The feeling of occasion shines through in every detail, whether the central touchscreen or the MB-Tex/microfiber upholstery of the Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV’s athletic seats. Nappa leather with AMG-specific seat designs is an option if you choose.

There are numerous other AMG touches around the interior. The instrument panel and beltlines are completed in eye-catching Space Grey MB-Tex with red topstitching, and the AMG Performance steering wheel has a flat bottom and a Nappa leather finish.

The silver aluminum paddles that appear to shift gears in a traditional automatic regulate the various recovery levels. Lower down, you’ll discover AMG-specific floor mats and performance pedals.

Another standout feature is the new Dolby Atmos sound format. Unlike traditional stereo sound systems with left-right dynamics, this one uses the full frequency range to provide a more immersive 360-degree experience. However, Mercedes has not mentioned the number of speakers.

Although not the biggest SUV in its class, Mercedes claims its short wheelbase (119.3 inches) contributes to its agility. The Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV also has a length of 192.1 inches, a width of 76 inches, and a height of 65.8 inches.

The curb weight is significant at 5,930 pounds, nearly as much as the base EQS 450+ SUV, which includes an extra seating row and stretches to more than 200 inches in length.

The Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV, like previous EQ models, has rounded, smooth surfaces on the outside. Whereas gas-powered AMGs feature a Panamericana grille, this one features a black panel with hot-stamped vertical struts in chrome. A huge Mercedes star makes it clear what you’re driving.

The Digital Light headlamps, available on non-AMG EQEs, are standard here. The front end is designed specifically for AMG, with plenty of glossy black and chrome details. Along the side are flush-fitting door handles, wheel arch claddings matching the body color, and 21- or 22-inch AMG alloy wheels.

An aerodynamically tuned diffuser and longitudinal fins may be found in the back. The taillights span the whole width of the vehicle. The colors of the Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV remain unknown, although the AMG EQS palette may provide some insight. That high-performance EQ variant is available in Polar White, Nautical Blue, and Graphite Grey finishes.

2024 Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV Performance

The AMG EQE SUV accelerates to 60 mph in 3.1 seconds and crosses the quarter mile in 11.5 seconds at 117.0 mph, thanks to two engines producing up to 677 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of torque combined. While the power and speed are thrilling, the overall dynamic perfection expected from AMG is lacking.

It doesn’t help that this performance variant is based on the EQE SUV, which has quirks. Fast or not, the AMG EQE is the latest evidence of Mercedes’ ongoing efforts to figure out what makes EVs enjoyable, rewarding, and cool in the first place.

Customers might miss the roar of a V8, but they are unlikely to grumble about the AMG Dynamic Plus Package’s 0-60 mph speed of 3.4 seconds. The peak speed increases from 137 mph to 149 mph with this pack.

Adapted inverters, greater currents, and various laminations enable faster motor speeds. Mercedes-AMG claims repeated acceleration runs are achievable due to a highly durable thermal design that includes a water lance in the rotor’s shaft to provide the necessary cooling.
