The 2025 model year will mark the debut of the second-generation Porsche Macan, now equipped with electric power.

Having witnessed camouflaged test mules and driven pre-production prototypes, the brand has unveiled design sketches, providing a comprehensive preview of the upcoming SUV.

Porsche embarked on this project with a clean slate, focusing on both design and technology.

Michael Mauer, the Vice President of the company’s design department, emphasized the challenge of striking a balance between heritage and innovation in creating a new sports car.

The design sketches hint at the next-generation Macan adopting a look more closely aligned with the Taycan than its predecessor, which will continue production for several years alongside its successor.

The front of the SUV showcases thin horizontal headlights with LED accents and an additional pair integrated into the bumper, while the rear features a light bar spanning the car’s entire width.

Previous spy shots confirm the new Macan maintains a design-centric approach over utility in its silhouette and proportions.

Mauer highlighted the dual nature of making the Macan an electric vehicle (EV) for Porsche’s designers.

The absence of a massive engine block allows for a more pronounced interpretation of the typical hood topography, but the sizable battery occupies considerable space, potentially impacting the vehicle’s width-to-height ratio.

The interior of the second-generation Macan draws inspiration from recent Porsche models like the updated Cayenne and Panamera.

Notable features include a 12.6-inch digital instrument cluster for the driver, a razor-shaped shifter on the dashboard, and a 10.9-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system.

Buyers have the option to include a second 10.9-inch touchscreen in the dashboard section directly in front of the front passenger.

While technical details are mostly undisclosed, Porsche has revealed some key information over the past few years.

The new Macan is built on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture developed jointly with Audi, providing dual-motor all-wheel-drive.

In its most potent configuration, the SUV is expected to generate approximately 603 horsepower and 737 pound-feet of torque, with other less powerful variants available. Weight details, a crucial aspect of a Porsche, have not been disclosed.

The official debut of the next-generation Macan is scheduled for Thursday, January 25, in Singapore, with sales set to commence shortly after.

Pricing details are yet to be announced. Meanwhile, the current Macan will continue to be available for buyers who prefer a non-electric option, with its duration in production remaining undetermined.
