The Federal Ministry of Transportation recently embarked on a study tour to the Lagos State Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) to gain insights into its operational strategies and partnership models, as well as to learn about the reform initiatives it has undertaken.
Led by Mr. Aepgha Monday and Mr. Izedonmi Fidelis from the Department of Road Transport and Mass Transit Administration of the Federal Ministry of Transportation, Marine, and Blue Economy, the delegation was warmly received by Dr. Kemi Amure, Head of Bus Services, representing LAMATA’s Managing Director, Engr. Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo.
During the visit, Dr. Amure provided a comprehensive briefing on LAMATA’s operational framework, collaborative approaches with stakeholders, and ongoing reform programs.
These initiatives include the Bus Reform Initiative (BRI) and the adoption of cleaner energy policies, with plans to integrate more electric vehicles and CNG buses into various bus routes across the state.
Furthermore, the delegation was given an insightful tour of LAMATA’s Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) infrastructure, which includes a dashboard displaying the real-time positions of all buses operating under the First and Last Mile scheme.
This study tour underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to revitalizing its Mass Transportation scheme as it seeks to leverage the experiences and best practices of successful transportation authorities like LAMATA.
