Tesla has introduced several new updates with the 2024.2.6 over-the-air software update to facilitate charging in colder climates. Residents in regions with frequent freezing temperatures will appreciate a new feature that preheats the charging port.

When selecting a charging station via the navigation system, the vehicle will automatically prepare the battery and warm up the charging port inlet, simplifying the connection of the charging cable. Customers must ensure the port is free of debris or ice before charging.

If the charging cable becomes stuck in the port inlet, the charging port can be warmed up to facilitate easy disconnection. If that method fails, the cable can be manually detached. Additionally, Tesla has introduced a timer to inform owners of the time needed for the battery to warm up before DC fast charging can commence.

All these updates aim to significantly improve the charging experience in cold weather conditions. Electric vehicles often face challenges in colder climates, with decreased range being a common issue.

However, Teslas tend to maintain a better range in cold weather compared to other electric vehicles. Another issue encountered by Tesla owners in cold climates is frozen door handles, but a solution to this peculiar problem has also been provided.

Improvements in charging functionality are not the only enhancements in the latest update. In Sport Mode, Teslas will now offer improved ride quality on various road surfaces, including rough tarmac. In Off-Road mode, owners can expect reduced body roll and pitch.

The adaptive high beams now automatically adjust themselves to reduce glare for oncoming cyclists and drivers, allowing Tesla drivers to maintain high beams by dimming individual headlight pixels.

The introduction of ultrawideband (UWB) technology for phone keys ensures more accurate communication between the vehicle and phone, facilitating easier locking, unlocking, and operation of automatic doors.

A contextual lock button has also been introduced for specific situations. For example, if a Model S is locked while someone is inside the car, the ‘Unlock Vehicle’ button will appear on the screen, enabling occupants to unlock the vehicle, which proves useful when approaching the car with hands full.

Furthermore, Tesla has recently implemented significant updates to the Full Self-Driving software, claiming that the latest improvements enable the car to make decisions akin to a human driver.
