A one-of-a-kind 2018 Jaguar I-Pace EV400 HSE is set to be auctioned, previously owned by King Charles. The King personally acquired this particular model for his use and for transporting other members of the royal family, including Queen Camilla.
Highlighted as the British royal family’s inaugural electric vehicle, the fully equipped I-Pace, valued at approximately £60,000 (or roughly $75,612 based on current exchange rates), was received in September 2018. It was outfitted with a rapid charger at Clarence House, one of the esteemed residences of the British royals situated in central London.
In terms of specifications, the EV boasts a 394-horsepower all-electric powertrain and an all-wheel-drive (AWD) mechanism. It also includes a 90 kWh battery pack, offering a range of 246 miles according to EPA standards – slightly less than the WLTP-rated range.
The King opted to have the I-Pace repainted from its original gray to his preferred color, Loire Blue, rendering it the sole specimen in this hue. The car features a five-seater cabin adorned with contrasting Light Oyster Windsor leather upholstery.
After accumulating approximately 3,000 miles, the car was returned to Jaguar in December 2020, eventually being purchased by its current owner, Karen French.
“I stumbled upon this I-Pace quite unexpectedly, and it turned out to be exactly what I was seeking. Only upon finalizing the purchase did I uncover its remarkable history, which left me thrilled. Having driven it for over 30,000 miles, I decided in the New Year that it was time for a change,” French remarked.
Historics Auctioneers anticipates auctioning this royal vehicle at the Ascot Racecourse on March 2, with an estimated selling price ranging between £55,000 and £70,000 ($69,311 and $88,214), which is quite reasonable considering a new model starts at $72,000 in the US.
For those uninterested in electric vehicles, other captivating lots at the auction house include a Ferrari Dino 246 GT, a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VI Tommi Makinen Edition, and a Ford Model T, the pioneer of mass-produced cars.
Jaguar is discontinuing the I-Pace nameplate as part of its strategy to transition entirely to electric vehicles by 2025. With its unique paint color and royal history, the car is expected to attract considerable interest from potential buyers.
