Tesla Cybertruck Owners Complain Bitterly About Rust

Recent reports have emerged from Cybertruck owners expressing discontent with their electric pickups. One American owner went as far as to claim that rust spots began appearing on his vehicle after just two days of exposure to rain.

This assertion is notable considering the Cybertruck’s renowned stainless steel body. Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, has previously highlighted the challenges associated with crafting and welding this unique chassis material.

The initial batch of Cybertrucks was delivered in December, and since then, numerous owners have observed small rust spots forming on the metal surface. Speculation abounds regarding the cause of this unexpected corrosion.

Business Insider uncovered a blog post from metal supplier Mead Metals, which explained that while stainless steel is resistant to rust, certain environmental conditions can still trigger corrosion. Water exposure is typically cited as the primary culprit, though prolonged heat exposure can also contribute to the issue.

Tesla appears to acknowledge the problem to some extent, as the digital manual for the Cybertruck advises prompt removal of corrosive substances like bird droppings and salt.

The absence of a protective coating on the Cybertruck’s stainless steel body is believed to be a significant factor exacerbating the problem. Consequently, Cybertruck owners are advising one another to consider applying such a coating as a preventative measure.
