While the Urus isn’t Lamborghini’s inaugural SUV, it stands out as the most commercially successful offering in the current lineup of the Raging Bull. Last year, the Italian automaker from Sant’Agata Bolognese achieved sales surpassing 10,000 units, with the Urus contributing to 60% of total deliveries.

Specifically, Lamborghini’s iteration of the SUV, akin to the Bentley Bentayga and Porsche Cayenne, saw sales totaling 6,087 units in 2023. In comparison, Ferrari limits Purosangue sales to 20% of their total sales volume. Ferrari sold 13,663 vehicles last year, implying that Purosangue sales cannot exceed 2,733 units given the current capacity.

Although neither high-performance SUV incorporates hybrid technology, Lamborghini is set to alter this in the latter half of 2024 with the introduction of the 2024 Urus PHEV.

Recently spotted undergoing testing in Sant’Agata Bolognese, the Urus PHEV appeared as a camouflaged prototype featuring distinct signature lighting from its predecessors, the Urus Performante and Urus S.

Confirmed by Lamborghini for a debut in the latter half of 2024, the Urus PHEV will be accompanied by a supercar inspired by the Revuelto. Codenamed LB63x, the successor to the Huracan, it is a plug-in hybrid featuring a twin-turbo V8 instead of the Audi 5.2 TFSI engine.

Refocusing on the Urus PHEV prototype. Acriore, notable changes include a redesigned front bumper, while the rear end appears largely unchanged from the Urus Performante and Urus S.

Notably, the Urus PHEV distinguishes itself with a charging port door on the left rear quarter panel, mirroring a feature found on another large SUV developed under the Volkswagen Group’s umbrella – the 2024 Porsche Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid.

Introduced in August 2023, the Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid stands out as the most potent Cayenne variant, combining a Porsche-Audi V8 with a plug-in hybrid system for a combined output of 729 horsepower.

Despite the impressive power figures, the Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid’s 4.0-liter V8 and electric drive unit are limited to 700 pound-feet of torque, considering its hefty weight of 2,570 kilograms or 5,666 pounds.

Anticipated with less weight than the Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid, the Urus PHEV for the 2025 model year is expected to be heavier than its non-hybrid counterparts, the Urus Performante and Urus S. Additionally, an increase in power output from its plug-in setup is also expected, potentially rivaling the BMW XM Label’s 738 horsepower.
