Transport Canada has recently issued a safety recall on behalf of Stellantis Canada. It has come to light that a few L-platform vehicles manufactured at Brampton Assembly in Ontario for the 2023 model year may have a parking brake that is incorrectly adjusted.

These vehicles include the Chrysler 300, the Dodge Charger, and its two-door variant. Stellantis Canada estimates that there are 76 potentially affected vehicles, but the exact production dates are unknown.

A search on the NHTSA’s website shows no current results for this issue in the United States. Canadian dealerships have already been directed to inspect and, if necessary, adjust the parking brake to prevent any risk of vehicle rollaway.

Owners are advised to contact Stellantis Canada at 1-800-465-2001 or input their vehicle’s 17-character VIN on the automaker’s website for further assistance.

If your vehicle is subject to the recall, please contact your preferred dealership to schedule a complimentary service appointment.

Meanwhile, there have been no reported brake-related complaints for the 2023 Chrysler 300 and 2023 Dodge Charger on the NHTSA’s website. However, there have been four complaints regarding the 2023 Dodge Challenger, including two concerning serious brake system issues.

In one incident, a Challenger owner experienced a popping sound while driving out of their garage, accompanied by severe wheel shuddering. Upon inspection, it was discovered that the brake pads had broken and crumbled, which is concerning for a vehicle with only 1,200 miles (1,900 kilometers) on it.

Another owner reported their brakes seizing after the vehicle had been parked for a week, with subsequent driving causing the front brake pad material to detach and adhere to the rotors. Rust was present on the brake discs upon delivery.

Stellantis has not yet addressed these complaints on the NHTSA’s website, and it remains to be seen whether they will issue a technical service bulletin or a safety recall in response.

Currently, Stellantis seems focused on introducing the redesigned Charger for the 2025 model year, which will be a three-door liftback based on the modular STLA Large platform.

This platform is adaptable for combustion engines, and the Charger will likely offer the Hurricane twin-turbo I6 engine found in other Stellantis vehicles. Meanwhile, Chrysler’s plan to go all-electric by 2028 means that the replacement for the Chrysler 300 is expected to be electric.
