Hyundai's Electrified Shift: Farewell to Hot Hatchbacks

The tightening emissions regulations in Europe spell the end for combustion engine hot hatchbacks, with Hyundai being the latest to succumb to these mandates. Hyundai confirmed the discontinuation of the i20 N and i30 N models for the European market, citing their commitment to zero tailpipe emissions by 2035.

With the Kona N already out of production, the Ioniq 5 N remains the sole N-badged model available in Europe. Despite lacking the traditional hot hatch characteristics, the Ioniq 5 N offers a compelling package with its electric powertrain, performance-oriented features, and impressive power output.

Hyundai's Electrified Shift: Farewell to Hot Hatchbacks

Equipped with high-performance components such as Pirelli tires, adaptive shocks, and a potent electric drivetrain, the Ioniq 5 N delivers exhilarating performance while prioritizing sustainability. However, its premium pricing reflects the shift towards electrification, making it a niche offering in the market.

Although the i20 N and i30 N have been discontinued, prospective buyers can still configure these models through Hyundai’s local configurators. However, the transition towards electrification signifies a new era for Hyundai’s performance lineup, marked by the introduction of models like the Ioniq 5 N.
