Yangwang, the esteemed brand under China’s BYD Auto umbrella, has introduced the U9 all-electric supercar into the market, boasting an array of impressive features that have garnered attention.
Following a series of teasers and showcases highlighting its unique abilities, such as driving on three wheels and executing jumps, the U9 has finally made its debut.
Priced at a starting point of 1.68 million yuan ($233,400), the Yangwang U9 enters the market to compete with GAC’s Aion Hyper Hyper SSR, priced at ¥1,286,000 ($186,870), and the forthcoming Lamborghini Lanzador as it gears up for global distribution.
The U9, aptly named Ultimate 9, distinguishes itself with striking C-shaped LED headlights, substantial air vents, and a full-width LED taillight. Its design features two sets of butterfly doors, enhancing cabin access, and a louvered rear window with a transparent fin reminiscent of the Mercedes-AMG One.
Within the cabin, the Yangwang U9 boasts a pair of LCD screens, comprising a 10.25″ driver display, a vertical 12.3″ center infotainment screen, and an optional 10.25″ passenger display.
Equipped with the cutting-edge “Yisifang” technology powering its quad motor setup, the U9 showcases remarkable performance metrics. It can sprint from 0-60 mph in a mere 2.36 seconds and achieve a top speed of 309.19 km/h (192 miles per hour), as revealed during a live-streamed event held in Shanghai.
Under the hood, the Yangwang U9 utilizes an LFP battery pack with an 80 kWh capacity, providing an impressive range of 700 kilometers (430 miles) on the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC). Thanks to its 800V architecture, the battery can recharge from 30% to 80% in just 10 minutes, further enhancing its practicality and appeal.
