The Fast Lane recently took delivery of a brand-new Tacoma on February 2nd. Despite its young age with only 3,569 miles (5,744 kilometers) on the odometer, the 2024 TRD Off-Road model encountered a 4WD malfunction while navigating off-road terrain in sub-zero temperatures.

Following an audible pop, the mid-size pickup lost power to its front wheels, leaving Roman Mica and Andre Smirnov puzzled as they inspected the Tacoma TRD Off-Road. No visible leaks or damages were detected underneath, and the drive shaft connecting the transfer case to the front wheels appeared intact.

Surprisingly, no warning lights related to the 4WD system illuminated the instrument cluster, adding to the mystery. The investigation into the issue commenced on January 3, 2024, after a field report prompted Jaguar Land Rover to evaluate the matter.

Upon closer examination, it was discovered that the turn signal flash rate frequency failed to adjust in the event of a turn signal malfunction, posing a safety risk and violating Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108.

This finding led to the initiation of recall 24V-134, affecting 2021 to 2024 I-Pace models produced by Magna Steyr between March 9, 2020, and December 15, 2023.

Affected vehicles, totaling 2,015 units, will undergo an update to rectify the configuration file setting related to turn signal failure. Dealers will be informed about the recall on March 7, with I-Pace owners receiving notifications by April 12.

Despite the recall, the I-Pace continues to face challenges in the market, with its driving range of 246 miles (396 kilometers) falling short compared to competitors like Rivian’s R1S and Tesla’s Model X.

Furthermore, Jaguar’s transition to an all-electric lineup by 2025 signals the end of production for the I-Pace, paving the way for future electric models built on the Jaguar Electrified Architecture platform.
