Stellantis has initiated a voluntary safety recall encompassing 338,238 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs in the United States. Specifically targeted are two models: the 2021-2023 Grand Cherokee L and the 2022-2023 Grand Cherokee, all produced between December 3, 2020, and May 30, 2023.

According to the safety recall report published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the recall stems from an investigation launched on June 26, 2023, addressing a potential safety concern related to the upper control arm (UCA) pinch bolts, which were found to be damaged during the vehicle assembly process.

The identified risk revolves around the possibility of compromised UCA pinch bolts, resulting in a loss of clamp load between the UCA ball joint and the knuckle.

This defect could lead to the separation of the UCA from the knuckle and, subsequently, the outboard displacement of the wheel, posing a significant safety hazard and increasing the likelihood of a vehicle crash.

Owners are advised to remain vigilant for any abnormal noises while driving over bumps, as this may indicate a potential issue.

As of January 24, 2024, Stellantis has recorded one customer assistance case, 18 warranty claims, and one field report related to this issue, with no reported accidents or injuries.

To address the problem, Jeep dealers will replace the damaged UCA pinch bolts in the affected vehicles. Owners who have previously replaced these parts are encouraged to provide original receipts or proof of payment for reimbursement.

Stellantis plans to notify dealers and owners about the recall by April 12, 2024. However, affected owners are advised to proactively contact their dealer to address the issue promptly.

This voluntary recall is distinct from the steering column issue affecting nearly 90,000 units of the Grand Cherokee last year. Fortunately, the 2024 Grand Cherokee SUVs, which recently underwent a significant price reduction, are not included in this recall.
