Former IndyCar driver Ed Jones to run three NASCAR Xfinity races

At the age of 29, Jones is set to embark on a new challenge in NASCAR Xfinity, piloting the No. 24 Sam Hunt Racing Toyota Supra for three races. While the team has yet to secure a victory in the NXS series, they have showcased promise with seven top-five finishes, achieved by four different drivers since 2021.

Jones’s debut race will take place at the Circuit of the Americas later this month, followed by appearances at Portland International Raceway and Sonoma Raceway.

With a racing career spanning various disciplines, Jones brings a wealth of experience to the table. As an IndyCar driver, he boasts 63 starts, including three podium finishes. Notably, he clinched third place in the 2017 Indianapolis 500 as a rookie and clinched the 2016 Indy Lights (now Indy NXT) championship.

Beyond IndyCar, the Emirati-born British racer has ventured into the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and the FIA World Endurance Championship.

His achievements include a third-place finish in class at the prestigious 2022 Le Mans 24, where he drove an LMP2 car. Additionally, Jones secured the 2013 European F3 title, further solidifying his prowess on the track.

Despite his extensive racing background, Jones’s foray into NASCAR is relatively recent. Prior to these upcoming Xfinity races, his NASCAR experience is limited, having only competed in one Truck race last year. Driving for Young’s Motorsports, his debut at COTA was marred by a suspension failure, leading to an early exit from the race.
