Ford Medium Duty Truck Recall Parking Brake Safety Concern

Ford has issued a recall for its Medium Duty truck line due to concerns over incorrectly manufactured parking brake handles, which could inadvertently disengage without the release button being pressed, posing a heightened risk of accidents, particularly on graded surfaces.

As a precaution, dealers have been instructed to halt demonstrations and deliveries of affected vehicles.

The recall affects F-650 and F-750 trucks produced between July 13, 2022, and December 8, 2023, at the Ohio Assembly Plant for the 2023 and 2024 model years, totaling 18,244 units.

Other vehicles manufactured at the same plant are under scrutiny, including F-350, F-450, and F-550 Chassis Cab, E-Series Cutaway, and E-Series Stripped Chassis models.

Ford Medium Duty Truck Recall Parking Brake Safety Concern

Ford’s investigation, initiated by the Critical Concern Review Group, revealed dimensional variations in certain components supplied by Orscheln Products LLC of Moberly, Missouri. These variations, affecting the control rod and J-hook engagement pin, compromise the proper operation of the parking brake handle assembly.

While there have been 87 warranty reports, 31 field reports, and one customer service report related to this issue, Ford has not received any reports of accidents or injuries resulting from the defect.

The remedy, likely to involve replacement of the entire assembly, is currently under development, with owner notification letters expected to be dispatched between April 8 and April 12.

Despite this setback, Ford continues to promote its Medium Duty line for the 2025 model year, offering various configurations with starting prices ranging from $69,685 to $80,895, depending on engine choice and specifications. Both gasoline and diesel options are available, providing ample power and torque for various applications.
