Nissan Recall Defective Airbag Inflators Impacting 2023-2024 Models

Just over 350 units of Nissan sedans, utility vehicles, and pickup trucks produced between 2023 and 2024 were equipped with driver’s airbag modules containing potentially defective inflators.

These suspect airbag inflators, supplied by Daicel Safety Systems Americas of Mesa, Arizona, may allow moisture to enter due to misaligned gaskets.

The issue was first identified by a Daicel technician on October 13, 2023, prompting Nissan to take immediate action. Initially, 21 suspect parts were identified, followed by the discovery of an additional 26 during a yard audit conducted by Nissan’s North American division. All affected vehicles were repaired before delivery.

While tests showed no immediate impact on inflator performance without one or both gaskets, prolonged exposure to moisture could adversely affect the propellant, potentially compromising deployment performance and increasing the risk of injury to the driver.

As a precautionary measure, Nissan instructed dealers nationwide to replace the driver airbag module with properly manufactured assemblies, a process expected to take less than an hour.

Affected owners will be notified via first-class mail starting April 10, 2024, and can also check for recalls using their vehicle’s 17-character VIN on Nissan’s website.

The recall includes various models such as the Titan, Frontier, Infiniti QX50, Versa, QX60, Kicks, Sentra, Pathfinder, and Rogue, with production dates ranging from July 17, 2023, to October 13, 2023.
