Kia’s US and Canadian divisions have initiated separate recalls involving the 2018-2023 model year Stinger and 2019-2020 model year K900, specifically those equipped with the 3.3L twin-turbocharged V6 engine.
In Canada, the recall affects 5,526 vehicles, while the NHTSA lists 36,248 units in the United States, totaling 41,774 sedans. The issue revolves around the left turbocharger oil feed pipe and hose assembly, prone to deterioration and potential oil leaks.
This poses a significant fire risk, especially if the leaked oil comes into contact with hot components such as the exhaust manifold.
Supplied by Sambo Motors of South Korea, the affected assemblies (part number 28240-3L100) were installed in vehicles manufactured between September 21, 2017, and June 29, 2022, at the Sohari plant for North American markets.
Kia Corporation became aware of the issue in June 2023, prompting investigations following reports of engine compartment smoke in a Korean market K900. Subsequent incidents, including an engine compartment fire in a Stinger, led to the discovery of deteriorated hose assemblies.
Owners will be notified via mail by April 26, with dealers instructed to replace the faulty assemblies with improved versions featuring enhanced materials for durability and safety.
