General Motors Speciality Vehicles (GMSV) stands firm on its current lineup of full-size pickup trucks, expressing contentment with the offerings of the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and 2500 HD for Australian customers.

Despite the availability of even larger models like the Silverado 3500 HD in the US, GMSV has no intentions to expand its range to include larger trucks for the Australian market.

The current lineup in Australia comprises the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 in LTZ Premium and ZR2 variants, alongside the Silverado 2500 HD available in a single LTZ Premium trim with the Z71 off-road package.

While the Silverado 3500 HD boasts impressive towing capabilities of up to 16,329kg in the US, GMSV sees no demand to introduce this model Down Under. Jess Bala, GM Australia, and New Zealand managing director emphasizes the niche appeal of the existing lineup, highlighting the loyalty of customers to the current offerings.

Bala underscores the suitability of the Silverado 2500 HD for the Australian market, meeting the towing and payload needs of customers effectively. She mentions ongoing analysis of GM’s pipeline but asserts that the Silverado 2500 HD aligns perfectly with the market’s demands.

In terms of competition, Ram Trucks Australia presents a comparable range of full-size pickups, offering models such as the Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 in various trims. While the Ram 3500 exceeds the towing capacity of the Silverado 2500 HD and offers options like dual rear wheels in the US, it’s not currently available in Australia.

For consumers seeking larger American pickup trucks, alternative avenues such as independent vehicle importers and conversion companies like Performax and AUSMV remain viable options in Australia.
