The 2023 Dodge Durango SRT 392 Premium spec model finds itself in an awkward predicament as it failed to meet its reserve at auction. With a new price tag of $83,185, the highest bid reached only $57,777. However, this outcome is not entirely unexpected.

Despite considerable enhancements, the current third-generation Dodge Durango, which entered production in late 2010, remains somewhat dated.

Built on the same platform as the fourth-generation Jeep Grand Cherokee (2010-2022), the Durango prioritizes practicality and comfort over its sibling’s ruggedness. Its aggressive styling sets it apart, even when compared to the high-performance Trackhawk-spec Grand Cherokee.

Available with various engine options, including a base 3.6-liter V6 and a supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi V8 akin to the Hellcat power unit, the Durango’s lineup caters to diverse preferences. Notably, the focus here is on the “near-flagship spec” Hemi 392 model, currently retailing from $74,995.

Meanwhile, a new SRT 392 Plus variant commands upwards of $80,995, while the SRT 392 Premium now demands $86,200 for the 2024 model year, marking an increase from the previous year’s pricing.

The particular 2023 Durango in question, boasting SRT 392 Premium specifications, presents several appealing attributes. With only 5,000 miles on the odometer, it retains a sense of newness.

Sporting a Destroyer Gray exterior and Winter White top, it features LED projector headlights, a vented hood, and other premium touches. The interior boasts heated and ventilated performance seats, Demonic Red and black Laguna leather upholstery, and advanced technological features.

Under the hood lies a robust 6.4-liter Hemi V8, producing 475 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox sending power to all four wheels.

Achieving a 0-60 mph sprint in 4.7 seconds, the Durango SRT 392 offers impressive performance, complemented by its adaptable suspension and high-quality craftsmanship.

Despite its merits, the Durango’s failure to meet its reserve can be attributed to its position in the market. While commanding a premium price, it faces tough competition from newer alternatives. Nonetheless, for enthusiasts seeking a blend of power and practicality, the Durango SRT 392 remains a compelling choice.
