Rivian’s recent unveiling event showcased more than just their anticipated R2 model. While initially planned to reveal their take on the BMW X3 or Mercedes-Benz GLC on March 7th, Rivian surprised enthusiasts with not only the smaller two-row R1S, dubbed R2 but also unveiled two other electric vehicles, the R3 and R3X.

These additions generated significant excitement, particularly the R3X, drawing inspiration from iconic vehicles like the VW Golf Country and Lancia Delta Integrale. A Better Route Planner (ABRP) provided insights into the drivetrains of these upcoming models, adding to the anticipation surrounding Rivian’s future offerings.

The presentation underscored Rivian’s commitment to innovation and customer feedback, portraying the R2 as a glimpse into their forthcoming lineup. While the R2 showcased a well-thought-out prototype, the R3 and R3X appeared more like concepts, yet their unexpected debut contributed to the overall excitement.

Rivian’s strategic approach garnered enthusiasm for the two-row SUV and the possibility of a modernized Lada Niva with advanced technology.

Furthermore, Rivian hinted at its plans by announcing an expansion of offerings, including a new tri-motor powertrain and a more cost-effective approach. Despite the premium price tags of their current models, Rivian assures that the R2, R3, and R3X will be more accessible.

With intentions to commence production in early 2026 and deliveries slated for mid-year, Rivian’s introduction of these “zero-emission” rides reflects a progressive outlook, promising diverse options for eco-conscious consumers.

Rivian disclosed details about battery options and charging capabilities. Both the R2 and R3 will offer two battery choices, catering to varying range preferences.

Notably, Rivian’s commitment to an expedited charging experience, with an estimated 10 to 80 percent charge in under 30 minutes, aligns with its vision of convenient electric mobility. While questions linger about efficiency and battery chemistry, Rivian’s proactive approach signals a promising trajectory in the electric vehicle market.
