Peugeot revealed the 9X8 at the 2022 New York Auto Show, marking its return to top-tier endurance racing after an 11-year hiatus. After completing its debut FIA World Endurance Championship season in 2023, Peugeot made significant revisions to the 9X8 for the 2024 campaign.

Sporting a new livery featuring the brand’s iconic Lion symbol and a rear wing, the 9X8 received extensive modifications, with 90% of the bodywork redesigned. While the appearance remains familiar, closer inspection reveals numerous updated elements.

Notable changes include a sleeker canopy and taller side-pods with reworked intakes. The fender and engine fins were also redesigned to complement the new wing. Furthermore, Peugeot adjusted the tire widths, opting for 29cm at the front and 34cm at the rear for improved performance.

To accommodate these enhancements, Peugeot adjusted the center of gravity by relocating components and reducing weight. According to Olivier Jansonnie, Peugeot Sport’s technical director, these upgrades aim to enhance reliability and performance for the upcoming championship season.

While drivetrain upgrades were not disclosed, the 9X8 retains its previous hybrid powertrain, consisting of a twin-turbo 2.6-liter V6, front-mounted motor-generator unit, and single-speed reducer. The V6 engine delivers 671 horsepower, while the electric unit adds 268 horsepower.

Peugeot aims to improve upon its 2023 performance, where the 9X8 secured a single podium finish at the 6 Hours of Monza. Competing in a competitive Hypercar division against formidable rivals, Peugeot seeks to assert itself in the 2024 FIA WEC season, which comprises eight races across various iconic circuits.
