The Japanese automaker has teased enthusiasts with a look at what’s to come, showcasing all five generations on social media and offering a sneak peek at the rear end of the upcoming sixth-generation model.
While details remain scarce, the teaser suggests that more information will follow, following the pattern set by the recent teaser campaign for the 2024 Tacoma mid-size pickup truck.
Expectations are high that the all-new 4Runner will share similarities with its sibling, the N400 fourth-generation Tacoma, including the TNGA-F body-on-frame platform, design elements, interior features, and possibly the 2.4-liter T24A-FTS turbo inline-four gasoline engine, with or without hybrid options.
Initial releases are likely to include the base 228-hp variant and the higher 278-horsepower tune, available with both manual and automatic transmissions. However, it’s unlikely that the 326-hp hybrid option will debut in the first model year, as Toyota’s current lineup prioritizes gasoline-only versions.
