The Last Audi R8 Sports Car Has Been Built, Destined For Museum

March marks the end of an era as the final Audi R8 gracefully rolls off the assembly line at the Audi “Böllinger Höfe” facility in Germany.

This last R8, an epitome of high-performance, boasts a striking Vegas Yellow finish, destined to find its place of honor in Audi’s museum.

Over a remarkable production run spanning 17 years, Audi crafted 44,418 examples of its flagship mid-engine sports car, a testament to its enduring popularity and appeal.

The Audi R8, a fusion of breathtaking design and racing heritage, has left an indelible mark on automotive enthusiasts worldwide.

The journey began with the debut of the first-generation R8 at the Paris Auto Show on September 30, 2006, drawing inspiration from the legendary Lamborghini Diablo. Its successor, the second-generation R8, revealed at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, further cemented the R8’s legacy.

At the Audi “Böllinger Höfe” site in Heilbronn, Germany, where production commenced in 2014, the final R8 bids farewell. Clad in Vegas Yellow, this ultimate iteration, a high-performance Quattro Edition Coupe, awaits its place of honor in Audi’s official museum in Ingolstadt, Germany.

Though destined to remain stationary, beneath its sleek exterior lies a powerhouse—a naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V-10 engine generating 602 horsepower and 413 ft lbs of torque. With a blistering 0-60 mph time of 3.1 seconds and a top speed of 205 mph, the final R8 exemplifies Audi’s commitment to exhilarating performance.

The decision to conclude production was not taken lightly. Originally slated to cease in 2023, overwhelming demand from enthusiasts compelled Audi to extend production, ensuring that every aficionado had the opportunity to experience the pinnacle of automotive excellence.

As the curtains close on the Audi R8’s illustrious journey, its legacy of innovation, performance, and timeless design will continue to inspire generations of automotive enthusiasts.
