Alpine, renowned for its gas-powered A110 sports car, is gearing up for an electric revolution with plans to introduce its first electric vehicle, the A290. Previewed by the A290 Beta concept last year, this subcompact hot hatch shares its platform with the Renault 5 E-Tech and is slated to hit the roads in early 2025.

Scheduled for debut on June 13, the A290 is poised to make a grand entrance on the sidelines of the 2024 24 Hours of Le Mans, just ahead of Alpine’s Hypercar class debut with the A424 LMH race car. Built on the CMF-B EV modular platform, developed by the Renault Nissan Mitsubishi Alliance, the A290 boasts a sophisticated multi-link rear suspension, a rarity in vehicles of its size.

With a compact length of 157 inches, slightly longer than a Mini Cooper, the A290 promises nimble handling and agility. While specific powertrain details are yet to be confirmed, the A290 is expected to offer similar options to its Renault counterpart.

Including a 40- and 52-kWh battery choices paired with electric motors generating 120 and 150 hp. Production of the A290 will take place at the Douai plant in France, underlining Alpine’s commitment to domestic manufacturing.

Looking ahead, Alpine’s electric lineup is set to expand further, with plans for a compact crossover and an electric successor to the A110 in the pipeline for 2025 and 2026, respectively. While the A110 successor was initially slated to share a platform with a Lotus sports car, recent developments have seen Alpine pursue an independent path.

The forthcoming crossover is expected to utilize the CMF-EV platform from the Renault Nissan Mitsubishi Alliance, enhancing Alpine’s presence in the electric vehicle market. With ambitions to launch in the U.S. by 2027, Alpine’s electric lineup, including two anticipated crossovers, aims to capture the attention of performance enthusiasts worldwide.
