Subaru has introduced a new version of its BRZ car, which is designed specifically for racing. It’s called the BRZ Cup Car Basic, and it’s made for the GR86/BRZ Cup, a racing series in Japan where only Toyota GR86 and Subaru BRZ cars compete.

The BRZ Cup Car Basic is similar to Toyota’s GR86 Cup Car Basic, with both having a new six-point roll cage and a six-point harness for safety. To fit the roll cage, special floor mats are included, and side airbags have been removed.

The engine in the BRZ Cup Car Basic remains the same as the regular BRZ, producing 232 horsepower in Japan. However, it does have an oil cooler and special differential housing for better cooling.

The car comes with basic steel wheels, as most racers would replace them with their own aftermarket wheels anyway. It costs ¥3,700,400 in Japan, which is more than the base BRZ.

The GR86/BRZ Cup started in 2013 with the first-generation models of these cars. It has eight rounds in a season, with two classes: Professional and Clubman. Professional racers may include some SuperGT drivers, while Clubman is for amateur racers.

Toyota and Subaru organize this series to promote grassroots racing, make motorsports more accessible, and support aftermarket parts. Subaru plans to sell only 30 BRZ Cup Car Basics per year.
