The Bronco Sport, distinct from its larger sibling the Bronco, shares more similarities with the Escape than the traditional Bronco model. Equipped with a standard 1.5L three-cylinder turbo EcoBoost engine, both the Bronco Sport and Escape have been subject to a recall due to potential fuel injector issues.

Ford Motor Company reported the defect to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), citing a combination of engine control software and fuel injector design as the cause. Despite being aware of the issue since early March 2024, the NHTSA only published the recall notice over a month later.

The recall affects a total of 42,652 vehicles, including 22,270 Bronco Sport units and 20,382 Escape units produced between 2022 and 2023. Ford’s remedy for the issue includes a software update for fuel injector leak detection and the installation of a drain tube to prevent fuel from leaking onto hot engine components.

The supplier of the faulty injectors, Vitesco Technologies, is based in Fauglia, Italy, and is a subsidiary of Vitesco Technologies Group AG in Regensburg, Germany. Ford advises owners to check their vehicle’s VIN on the company’s website or contact customer service for further information.

Despite this setback, both the Bronco Sport and Escape remain popular choices, with Ford continuing to offer a range of engine options, including hybrid variants for eco-conscious consumers.
