Kia is making waves with the revealing of the Tasman, its entry into the light commercial vehicle class slated for next year. Collaborating with artist Richard Boyd-Dunlop, Kia infused the Tasman’s exterior with unique graphics inspired by Australia’s diverse world.
Boyd-Dunlop drew from personal experiences traversing Australia to craft the fascinating design, capturing the essence of the land and sea. The result is a striking visual representation that embodies the spirit of adventure inherent in Australian culture.
Breaking away from traditional camouflage, Kia’s innovative approach showcases the Tasman’s distinct face, hinting at its rugged capabilities beneath the surface. Boasting boxy proportions, vertical LED taillights, and robust features, the Tasman promises versatility and performance.
Built on the Mohave/Borego architecture, the Tasman is expected to offer superior off-road capabilities, equipped with a range of powertrain options including diesel and gasoline engines. Reports suggest a potent 2.2-liter CRDi diesel engine and a 2.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine may power the Tasman, delivering impressive performance.
With its name inspired by the Tasman Sea, Kia’s pickup will compete globally, challenging established contenders like the Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger. Scheduled for a debut next year, the Tasman signals Kia’s commitment to innovation and expansion into new markets.
Additionally, Kia is developing a battery-electric workhorse set to launch in North America, further diversifying its lineup and embracing the shift towards electrification in the automotive industry.
