Subaru of America, Inc. has announced that production of the Legacy sedan will come to an end next year after the conclusion of the 2025 model year. The Legacy has held a significant place in Subaru’s history, particularly in the American market. Since its debut in 1989, it has been manufactured at Subaru’s Indiana plant, becoming the first Subaru vehicle produced in the United States.

Known for its safety and reliability, the Legacy has garnered acclaim, with over 94% of vehicles sold in the last decade still on the road today and earning the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety Top Safety Pick for 18 consecutive years. Introduced as a competitive mid-sized sedan and wagon, the Legacy featured advanced technology and design elements, setting the stage for subsequent Subaru models.

Throughout its six generations, the Legacy has amassed over 1.3 million sales in the U.S., making it Subaru’s longest-running model line. However, market trends toward SUVs and crossovers, coupled with Subaru’s focus on electrified vehicles, have led to the decision to discontinue the Legacy. Subaru Corporation previously announced plans to produce eight EV models by 2028, including the Solterra EV introduced in the 2023 model year.

The 2025 Legacy, priced starting at $24,895, will be the final iteration of this iconic sedan. Subaru retailers will begin offering the 2025 Legacy this spring before bidding farewell to a cornerstone of Subaru’s legacy in the American automotive industry.
