Since leaving the United States in 2019, Smart has been moving away from its small car image and aiming for bigger markets. At the 2024 Beijing auto show, it introduced a new concept called #5, showing its shift towards more mainstream cars.
The #5 concept looks rugged with features like a winch, a roof-mounted light bar, and a rear step for roof access. But underneath, it’s just like any other crossover you’d see on the road.
Smart claims the #5 is its roomiest car yet, with space for four people and lots of cool gadgets inside. There are individual seats, a big center console, portable speakers, and screens on the dashboard. It even hints at having an AI assistant for fun chats during the ride.

We don’t know much about its technical details, but we do know it’s an electric car with all-wheel drive. It runs on a big battery that can charge quickly and should give a range of over 340 miles. There are also different driving modes to choose from.
We can expect to see the production version of the #5 later in 2024. It will likely be made in China and probably won’t be sold in the United States.
