“With only 502 units produced, sightings of this model are rare.” To be precise, the production run of the famed option package, the 442 W30 from 1967, totaled 502 units. These numbers signify a significant milestone for the GM Oldsmobile division, representing the pinnacle of performance during the era.

The introduction of the W30 option in 1966 marked a turning point for the 4-4-2 series, particularly with its exclusive availability on the Cutlass Supreme in 1967. Coinciding with the final year of production for the first generation of 4-4-2s, the W30 option added a layer of distinction to the lineup.

Despite initial challenges, including minimal advertising and competition from rival muscle cars, the W30 option gained popularity over time. In 1967, Oldsmobile produced three times as many W30-equipped Cutlass Supremes compared to previous years, making them relatively rare in the market.

However, due to regulatory constraints from GM, the 1967 W30 engines differed from their predecessors, featuring a single four-throat carburetor instead of the original trio. Despite these changes, the W30-equipped 4-4-2s retained their performance-oriented design and characteristics.

One such example is showcased in a video featuring Bill Henrey’s 1967 W30 Holiday Coupe, highlighting its distinctive features and performance capabilities. With its signature red plastic wheel wells and California smog equipment, this 4-4-2 W30 exemplifies the essence of a classic muscle car.

Despite its age, this 4-4-2 W30 continues to command attention, embodying the spirit of performance and heritage synonymous with the Oldsmobile brand.
