Mitsubishi Motors Australia Limited (MMAL) has not discontinued the traditional third-generation Pajero Sport, nor has it updated it to the new standards set by the completely redesigned fifth-generation Triton (L200) mid-size pickup truck.

The Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, which was previously known from 1996 to 2016 as the Challenger and is also called the Montero Sport and Shogun Sport, has been continuously produced under the Pajero brand by Mitsubishi Motors since 1996.

It entered its third generation in 2015. Over this period, Mitsubishi has updated the vehicle twice with facelifts in 2019 and more recently in March 2024, when it was first revealed in Thailand.

“Pajero Sport continues to play a crucial role in our product lineup,” commented MMAL CEO Shaun Westcott. “It is roomy, comfortable, and competent, and the 2024 version looks impressive with its updated exterior, new wheels, and enhanced interior.

The addition of an updated digital instrument display for Exceed and GSR, as well as enhanced standard features for GLX, reflect significant enhancements across the model range.” Yet, some might argue it still doesn’t match the all-new Triton.

The 2024 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is now available for ordering at dealerships, with prices beginning at AUD 51,540 ($33,373) for the five-seater GLX model. The rest of the lineup, which includes a seven-seat configuration, starts with the GLS at AUD 56,890 ($36,837), the GLS Deluxe at AUD 59,240 ($38,359), the Exceed at AUD 62,590 ($40,523), and reaches up to the GSR at AUD 64,840 ($41,980).

All models are powered by the same 2.4-liter inline-four turbo diesel engine producing 133 kW (178 hp) and 430 Nm (317 lb-ft) of torque, paired with a four-wheel-drive system and an eight-speed automatic transmission.
