Although the 2024 Hyundai Sonata has earned the prestigious Top Safety Pick award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, critical issues have been identified with the sedan.

The IIHS rated the Sonata poorly in the updated moderate overlap front crash test, citing a high risk of injuries to second-row child passengers. Specifically, the lap belt was observed to slip from the pelvis to the abdomen during testing, increasing the risk of abdominal injury.

Additionally, the LATCH system’s usability was deemed problematic, with all four lower anchors located too deep in the rear seats. Despite these concerns, the Sonata received good ratings in other safety tests, including small overlap front, side, and front crash prevention.

Available in various trims, the Sonata offers a range of features and options to suit different preferences and budgets. The entry-level SEL model starts at $27,500 and comes equipped with a host of amenities, including a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system and heated front seats.

For those seeking more performance, the N Line variant offers a turbocharged engine producing 290 horsepower and additional sport-oriented features. With its Highway Driving Assist system and advanced safety technologies, the N Line enhances both performance and safety.

The Sonata Hybrid models cater to environmentally conscious consumers, boasting impressive fuel efficiency and a range of eco-friendly features. Despite the identified safety concerns, the Sonata remains a compelling option in the midsize sedan segment.
