Over 15,600 examples of the ML, GL, and R-Class from the 2006 through 2012 model years may experience reduced braking performance or brake failure due to brake booster corrosion. Moisture accumulation inside the brake booster housing unit is identified as the root cause of this corrosion.

Supplied by Continental Tire Americas, the affected brake booster, bearing part number A1644310627, is crucial for enhancing braking performance. It amplifies hydraulic pressure to the brake master cylinder, reducing the force required to brake.

Mercedes-Benz AG initiated an investigation following reports of abnormally low brake force support, leading to the discovery of corrosion in the brake booster. Despite no reported incidents causing crashes, property damage, or injuries, Mercedes-Benz USA has issued a recall for 15,604 vehicles.

Owners will be notified of the recall and instructed to visit dealerships for inspection and, if necessary, replacement of the brake booster. The remedy part, devoid of an aesthetic rubber sleeve around the housing, aims to restore braking performance and ensure vehicle safety.

Affected vehicles include the ML, GL, and R-Class series, encompassing various trims such as the ML 320, GL 450, and R 63 AMG. This recall demonstrates Mercedes-Benz’s commitment to vehicle safety and customer satisfaction, prioritizing proactive measures to address potential safety concerns.
