As many enthusiasts are aware, Mercedes-Benz has phased out six- and eight-cylinder powertrains from the GLC lineup with the second generation of the luxury SUV. Instead, the lineup is now exclusively powered by four-cylinder engines, even in models like the 43 series and the formidable 63.

In a recent video, the spotlight falls not on a thoroughbred AMG with a handcrafted engine but rather on the pragmatic GLC 300e. Known as the 350e in the United States, this plug-in hybrid crossover combines a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with a 134-horsepower electric drive unit, delivering a total output of 313 hp and 406 lb-ft (550 Nm) of torque.

Weighing in at 2,413 kilograms (5,320 pounds) in Euro specification, the GLC 300e faces off against its direct competitor, the Volvo XC60 T6 Recharge, in a quarter-mile showdown.

Despite the Volvo’s punchier powertrain and lower curb weight of 2,212 kilograms (4,877 pounds), the GLC 300e puts up a valiant effort.

The Volvo emerges victorious in both power and torque, but the GLC 300e proves its mettle, clocking a respectable 14.33 seconds in the quarter mile. While the Mercedes may not claim victory, it showcases its capabilities in the burgeoning plug-in hybrid segment, offering a compelling blend of performance and efficiency.

In a rapidly evolving automotive world, Mercedes-Benz continues to adapt, offering innovative solutions to meet the demands of modern drivers. With its electrified powertrain and dynamic performance, the GLC 300e exemplifies Mercedes-Benz’s commitment to sustainable luxury and driving pleasure.
