This summer, the G90 sedan will welcome a family-sized counterpart known as the G99, joining the BMW lineup. With the last M5 Touring dating back to the V10-powered E61 from 2007 to 2010, the new BMW M5 Touring faces high expectations.

While enthusiasts lament the absence of a high-revving V10, the G99 promises to surpass its 500-horsepower predecessor. Leaked images reveal design elements borrowed from the G61 wagon and the sedan-bodied G60, incorporating features from the M60 xDrive and the M560e xDrive.

Despite potential styling differences, the G99 compensates with performance, interior luxury, and advanced technology. Notably, BMW iDrive with QuickSelect represents a significant advancement, replacing physical controls with intuitive swipes and taps.

Under the hood, the all-new M5 benefits from hybrid assistance, offering improved performance over its predecessor. Derived from the XM Label, the plug-in hybrid system delivers a formidable 738 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque, courtesy of the 4.4L twin-turbo V8 and transmission-integrated electric motor.

Speculation suggests the G99 could boast a combined 718 horsepower, with the V8 contributing up to 577 horsepower and the electric motor providing an additional 194 horsepower.

With prototypes sporting 21-inch rear and 20-inch front tires, the G99 faces competition from the Audi RS 7 and Mercedes-AMG E 63. BMW’s confirmation of the M5 Touring’s US market availability signals an exciting addition to the lineup, expected to debut in late summer and enter production in November 2024.
