Motorcycle riding becomes more intuitive with experience, with balancing and gear shifting becoming second nature over time. Similar to cars, motorcycles offer manual and automatic transmission options, each with its own advantages and drawbacks.

Manual transmissions provide riders with greater control over acceleration, fuel consumption, and bike behavior but may pose challenges for inexperienced riders and increase the risk of stalling. In contrast, automatic transmissions offer ease of use, particularly in urban environments, eliminating the risk of stalling but potentially increasing fuel consumption and cost.

BMW Motorrad introduces the Automated Shift Assistant (ASA), offering a hybrid solution that automates clutch operation and gear shifting while allowing riders to choose between manual and automated modes. ASA utilizes electromechanical actuators to control clutch and gear shifting, providing smooth gear changes and preventing stalling.

With two modes, M and D, ASA enables manual gear changes with system assistance or fully automated gear shifting based on riding conditions. By integrating with existing bike systems, ASA enhances rider experience by eliminating manual clutch operation discomforts and providing precise gear changes.
