The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, or NHTSA, is looking into Fisker’s Ocean SUVs from 2023. They received complaints that the automatic emergency braking system in these electric cars suddenly activated without any obstacles in the way, causing the cars to slow down quickly. Some people got hurt in three of these cases.

NHTSA will check how big the problem is and how dangerous it might be. They might finish their investigation without doing anything.

This isn’t the first trouble for Fisker’s Ocean SUVs. NHTSA was already looking into them for other issues. Last month, people complained that the doors sometimes didn’t open.

Fisker has been having financial problems too. They were worried about staying in business in February. Then, in March, their stock was taken off the New York Stock Exchange, and talks with a big car company for a deal fell through.

In April, Fisker couldn’t pay an $8.4 million bill on time. They were given 30 days to pay, but they missed that too.

Now, Fisker’s Austrian unit, where they make some of their cars, is starting bankruptcy proceedings. They’re trying to figure out how to get enough money to pay their debts.
