The Dodge Challenger enjoyed a brief production run until 1974, coinciding with the decline of the muscle car era. Despite its short lifespan, particularly with high-performance V8 engines from 1971-1972, the Challenger earned a place as an iconic Mopar vehicle.

During its production, the Challenger offered a range of potent powerplants, including the legendary 426-cubic-inch (7.0-liter) HEMI V8, renowned for its exceptional performance. Despite its desirability, the HEMI-equipped Challengers were rare due to factors like high insurance costs for high-performance vehicles.

Surviving examples of the 426 HEMI Challenger are highly sought after, with only a fraction of the original production numbers still in existence. However, some fortunate enthusiasts have managed to restore and preserve these iconic muscle cars.

One such example is a red-on-red Challenger, owned by Randy Schranz since 1974. Despite acquiring the vehicle in less-than-optimal condition, Randy started on a restoration journey that spanned several decades, culminating in the Challenger’s emergence in pristine condition in 2022.

Equipped with its original numbers-matching 426 HEMI V8 engine and a four-speed manual transmission, this Challenger represents a rare and desirable configuration. With relatively low mileage post-restoration, it stands as a testament to the enduring appeal of classic muscle cars.
