Ian Callum, who was in charge of designing Jaguars for a long time, retired in 2019. Shortly after, he started his own design company. It’s called Callum, after him. The brand has been working on different projects, like making the Jaguar C-X75 concept into a car you can drive on the street. Now, they’ve announced their biggest project yet. It’s called the Skye, named after an island where they make whiskey in Scotland. This is the first car that Callum has made completely from scratch.

We first heard about the Skye at the end of 2023. Since then, they’ve made a lot of progress. It’s now at the prototype stage. The car will be shown to the public for the first time at an event called the Concours on Savile Row in London on May 22, 2024. The Skye’s size hasn’t changed much recently, so it’s still hard to say exactly what kind of car it is. Is it a coupe with high ground clearance like an SUV? Or is it an SUV with a body like a coupe? Maybe it’s a fancy version of the beach buggies people used to drive on the sand. But one thing’s for sure, it’s going to get people talking.

Callum showed what the inside of the Skye looks like before they show the whole car. It has room for four people, with two seats in the front and a bench in the back. The driver gets a steering wheel with three spokes, a big screen for the radio and stuff, and a row of little screens in the middle for other things.

The car runs on a battery that holds enough power for about 170 miles of driving. That’s not a lot compared to other electric cars, but Callum says you can charge it really fast, in less than 10 minutes. They say it can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in under four seconds, but they haven’t said much else about how fast it can go. We do know how big it is though. It’s about 159 inches long and 74.8 inches wide, and it weighs 2,535 pounds. That’s pretty light for an electric car.

To give you an idea, the Skye is a bit shorter and wider than a Jeep Wrangler. And it’s a bit heavier than a Mazda MX-5 Miata. But it’s got big tires because Callum wants it to be able to go off-road.

You can already order one, and it’ll cost between £80,000 and £100,000 depending on what options you pick. That’s about $101,600 to $127,000. Callum says they’re only going to make a few of them, and they’ll make different versions for different things. Some will be really good for off-roading, and others will be better for driving on regular roads.
