In a notable evolution, the Renault Kwid, originally an Indian crossover, has an electric version in China known as the Renault City K-ZE. This model further progressed into the Spring, debuting in October 2020 for the 2021 model year.

To tailor the Spring for the European market, Renault and its Chinese partner Dongfeng re-engineered the vehicle. The Dacia brand introduced a minor facelift in June 2022 featuring its new Romanian logo, with a more substantial update following in February 2024.

This updated version is now available in the UK as a right-hand drive model. Despite not being entirely new, the Spring offers several benefits as an A-segment hatchback on stilts. It is easy to park and maneuver in urban settings and comes at an affordable price.

Starting at £14,995 in the UK (approximately $19,100) and €16,900 (around $18,310) for the Essential trim in Romania, the Spring presents a cost-effective urban EV option. In the UK, the base trim is the Expression, with orders beginning on June 4, and a £99 deposit on Dacia’s website allows customers to pre-order, choosing from perks like £250 of charging credit, accessories, or a home charger.

The UK offers three grades: Expression Electric 45, Expression Electric 65, and Extreme Electric 65, with horsepower ratings of 44 and 64, respectively. The 0-60 mph times are approximately 19 and 14 seconds for the two power options. Designed for urban use, the Spring is ideal for daily commutes and weekend shopping trips, featuring a spacious trunk and foldable rear seats for added cargo space.
