April saw the debut of Mercedes-Benz’s sixth-generation W214 E-Class executive car, a substantial improvement over its predecessor. This model is based on the MRA II (Modular Rear Architecture) platform, which prioritizes rear-wheel drive.
The W214 saloon and X214 all-terrain are positioned against competitors like the Audi A6 allroad Quattro, starting at $69,300, and the Volvo V90 Cross Country, beginning at $61,195.
The V90 boasts a 295 hp B6 AWD mild hybrid engine, reaching 60 mph in 6.1 seconds, while the A6, with its 335 hp V6 engine, hits 60 mph in 5.4 seconds. Mercedes-Benz expanded its lineup in September 2023 by introducing the E-Class All-Terrain model.
The E 450 4Matic available in the US is powered by a 3.0-liter mild hybrid six-cylinder engine, delivering 375 hp and an additional 23 hp from an electric boost, allowing it to accelerate to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds.
With a starting price of $75,850, including destination charges, it is the most powerful and costly in its segment. Standard features include all-wheel drive, Airmatic air suspension, and an Off-Road driving mode.
This new model is larger than its predecessor, with a width of 75 inches, a height of 58.9 inches, and a length of 195 inches, along with a 116.6-inch wheelbase. The luggage capacity varies from 33.1 to 64.6 cubic feet with the second row folded, and it offers a city fuel economy of 22 mpg and a highway average of 31 mpg.
Numerous optional features, such as exclusive paint colors, 20-inch AMG wheels, and a wide array of interior trims and packages, can raise the price to nearly $100,000, highlighting its luxurious nature.
