Alfa Romeo is setting its sights on a new contender in the luxury SUV market. CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato revealed plans for a potential flagship SUV to rival established names like the Porsche Cayenne.
In an interview with Autocar, Imparato hinted at the brand’s strong position to develop such a vehicle, stating it possesses the necessary platform, engines, and software. He added, “We can go all-out, and I have some very promising design ideas.”
With the global automotive market undergoing a shift towards electrification and SUVs dominating sales charts, Alfa Romeo is at a crossroads.
Their decision hinges on whether to develop a new flagship SUV to compete in the lucrative North American and European markets or revive a more enthusiast-oriented vehicle.
While the SUV promises high sales volume, a return to a smaller, sportier model like the iconic Giulietta hatchback could reignite the brand’s racing heritage and attract a passionate customer base.
