Ferrari, the prestigious Italian automaker, is considering a battery subscription program for their existing hybrid models and upcoming electric vehicles. This extended warranty service is estimated to cost around $7,500 annually.

In exchange for this hefty price tag, owners would be guaranteed a new battery after eight years or sooner if a defect arises. While this service offers peace of mind, some critics question its value.

They point out that the battery costs for Ferrari’s hybrids (around 8 kWh) and the likely cost of the battery for their first electric car seem significantly lower than the $7,500 subscription fee.

They also argue that the standard five-year warranty might be sufficient for those who don’t plan to own their Ferrari for eight years.

This news comes as Ferrari’s hybrid sales have grown to encompass nearly half of its total sales, making battery health a key concern for both the company and its customers.

Facing stricter environmental regulations, Ferrari is committed to extending the life of its naturally-aspirated V12 engine for as long as possible.

This means even exploring alternative fuels like synthetic options. While electrification is a growing part of their lineup, with models like the 296 and SF90 series, Ferrari remains dedicated to offering pure combustion options alongside their hybrid and future electric vehicles.

The Roma and Purosangue showcase the continuing presence of the V12, while the 296 series utilizes a powerful combination of a 3.0-liter V6 and an electric motor to rival the V12’s output.

The SF90 XX pushes the boundaries even further with a hybrid setup exceeding 1000 horsepower. Though their first all-electric car arrives soon, Ferrari isn’t abandoning its heritage entirely. The upcoming LaFerrari successor, the F250, will blend a twin-turbo V6 with electric power.
