While the Charger name is most often associated with the American muscle car, its history extends far beyond the United States. In Australia, Chrysler offered a locally produced muscle car based on the Valiant, a compact model similar to the Plymouth. This Australian Charger was a distinct entity from its American counterpart, sharing little in terms of design or engineering.

Meanwhile, in South America, the Charger was a rebodied Dodge Dart. This version, introduced in Brazil in 1969, offered a more stylish and sporty alternative to the original Dart. The Brazilian Charger gained a two-door hardtop body style in 1970, further enhancing its appeal to performance enthusiasts.

One of the most notable features of the Brazilian Charger was its “R/T” trim level. This high-performance variant boasted a more powerful engine, upgraded suspension, and distinctive styling cues, making it a coveted choice among local drivers. The Charger’s success in Brazil demonstrated the enduring appeal of the nameplate and its ability to adapt to different markets and automotive world.

Despite its American origins, the Brazilian made Dart and Charger were significantly less powerful than their US counterparts. The Brazilian Dart, for instance, featured a 318 cubic inch V8 that produced a modest 198 horsepower, compared to the optional big-block V8 available in the US version. Similarly, the Brazilian Charger’s 215 horsepower LA-type small-block engine was a step down from the more potent options offered in the US market.

The Brazilian Charger was discontinued in 1978, making it a rare sight today. While a few examples have been imported to the United States, they remain exceedingly scarce. This yellow 1975 Charger R/T, spotted at a recent car show, is a testament to the rarity and desirability of these Brazilian-made vehicles.

The Charger’s striking yellow paint, coupled with its distinctive black stripes and vinyl roof, make it a standout even among other classic muscle cars.

The vehicle’s condition appears to be excellent, suggesting that it has been well-maintained or perhaps even restored. Given the scarcity of Brazilian-made Chargers in the United States, this particular example is likely to be highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts.
