The Dodge Viper, a venomous symbol of Mopar’s brief foray into the two seat sports car, continues to fascinate enthusiasts despite its discontinuation years ago. One such admirer, Chris Lehuede, a Mopar loyalist from Medford, Oregon, proudly owns a 1997 Viper GTS, a rare find given its production ended in 2002.

Lehuede’s journey to acquire this iconic vehicle was marked by a peculiar encounter in the small, unincorporated town of Tallassee, Tennessee. Lehuede had been searching for a Viper for some time when he stumbled upon an advertisement for a 1997 GTS in Tallassee.

Intrigued by the prospect of owning such a rare vehicle, Lehuede contacted the seller and learned that the car was in pristine condition with only 27 miles on the odometer. Despite the car’s apparent newness, Lehuede felt a sense of unease and decided to fly to Tennessee to inspect it in person.

Upon arriving in Tallassee, Lehuede was greeted by the seller and given a tour of the Viper. His suspicions were confirmed when he noticed that the car’s interior and exterior were completely untouched, and the odometer reading remained at 27 miles. The seller explained that the car had been a showroom model and had never been driven off the lot.

Despite the seller’s assurances, Lehuede remained skeptical. He knew that it was highly unusual for a car to remain in such pristine condition for so long, especially a high-performance sports car like the Viper. However, after a thorough inspection, he was convinced that the car was indeed a genuine 1997 GTS.

Lehuede purchased the Viper and drove it back to Medford. He has since become a dedicated owner and has enjoyed driving his rare and powerful vehicle on many occasions. The Viper has become a prized possession for Lehuede, and he is proud to be one of the few people who owns a 1997 GTS.
