The Nissan Versa, once the most affordable new car in the United States, has lost its title to the Mitsubishi Mirage for the 2025 model year. The subcompact sedan now starts at $17,190, an increase from the previous year’s $16,130. Despite the higher price, the Versa still offers several features, including a 1.6-liter engine, LED headlights, and Nissan Maintenance Care.

The base S trim is available with a manual transmission, while the SV and SR trims come with an automatic CVT. The Versa’s engine, a 1.6-liter naturally aspirated inline four, provides adequate power for daily commuting. The CVT transmission offers a smooth driving experience, but some drivers may find it less engaging than a manual transmission.

Nissan Maintenance Care is a valuable feature that provides up to three complimentary oil changes over two years or 24,000 miles. This program can help reduce the cost of ownership for Versa owners. The Versa’s LED headlights improve visibility at night and enhance the car’s appearance.

The Nissan Versa, a compact hatchback, offers a range of features and amenities across its trim levels. Front vented discs and rear drums provide reliable braking, while torsion-beam rear suspension and twin turbo shocks ensure a comfortable ride. The Versa S boasts advanced safety features like lane departure warning, rear automatic braking, high beam assist, and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection.

The CVT-only SV adds blind spot warning, 16-inch alloy wheels, premium cloth upholstery, and a wireless phone charger. The SR trim further enhances the experience with larger 17-inch wheels, an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, six speakers, Nissan Connect Services, a Wi-Fi hotspot, Intelligent Cruise Control, and heated front seats.

With its spacious interior, including best in class front legroom and headroom, and a generous trunk capacity of 15 cubic feet, the Versa offers practicality and comfort. While the current gen Versa may be discontinued in 2025, it remains a competitive option in its segment.

The Mirage G4 sedan, a slightly more expensive alternative, is the only new competitor available as of September 2024. As Nissan plans to discontinue the Altima after 2026, the Sentra will be the sole combustion engined sedan in their US lineup. The Versa’s combination of features, performance, and value make it a compelling choice for drivers seeking a reliable and practical compact hatchback.

Its advanced safety features, comfortable ride, and spacious interior contribute to a satisfying driving experience. However, potential buyers should consider its impending discontinuation and explore other options in the market if they are looking for a long term investment.
