American car buyers purchased millions of new vehicles in 2025, but certain models delivered performances that went beyond ordinary bestseller rankings.
Several nameplates recorded their strongest annual sales ever, reflecting changing preferences for affordable pickups, capable SUVs, family transportation, and practical commercial vehicles.
According to Cox Automotive’s Kelley Blue Book sales data and individual manufacturer reports, these achievements reveal where demand was particularly strong.
The following seven vehicles stand out because their manufacturers reported record-setting or historically significant U.S. sales performances during the year, supported by actual delivery figures rather than popularity claims alone.
1. Ford Maverick
The Ford Maverick delivered a landmark performance in 2025, establishing itself as one of America’s most successful compact pickups. Ford reported 155,051 U.S. sales, representing an 18.2% increase over the 131,142 units recorded in 2024.
This was the highest annual sales figure since the Maverick returned to the American market for the 2022 model year. Its fourth-quarter performance was particularly impressive, with 34,147 pickups sold, a 54.2% increase compared with the same period in 2024.
The Maverick’s success is closely connected to its positioning in a market traditionally dominated by larger and more expensive trucks. Its smaller dimensions make it easier to maneuver and park in urban environments, while its open cargo bed provides the flexibility expected from a pickup.
Ford also offers two distinct powertrain choices, including a 2.5-liter hybrid and a 2.0-liter EcoBoost turbocharged gasoline engine.

Fuel efficiency adds another important selling point. The hybrid configuration provides an EPA-estimated 42 mpg in city driving with front-wheel drive, making it particularly attractive to customers who use their trucks for daily commuting. Buyers seeking greater capability can select available all-wheel drive and additional towing equipment.
For 2025, the Maverick offered a practical combination of affordability, everyday usability, and pickup functionality. Its record sales demonstrate that American customers are interested in smaller trucks that can handle ordinary transportation needs without requiring the size of a full-size pickup.
2. Ford Bronco
Few modern American SUVs have experienced a comeback quite like the Ford Bronco. After returning for the 2021 model year, the nameplate continued building momentum and reached a new annual sales record in 2025.
Ford reported 146,007 Bronco sales in the United States, an impressive 33.7% increase over the 109,172 vehicles sold during 2024. The fourth quarter alone contributed 36,086 deliveries, marking a 12% improvement over the corresponding period a year earlier.
The Bronco’s appeal comes from its purpose-built approach to off-road driving. Unlike conventional family crossovers, it offers removable doors and roof panels, available locking differentials, specialized suspension equipment, and genuine four-wheel-drive hardware.
These features make it particularly appealing to buyers who regularly travel beyond paved roads.
Ford provided several configurations for 2025, allowing customers to choose between everyday-oriented versions and specialized off-road models. Engine choices included a 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder and a 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6, while the high-performance Bronco Raptor featured a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 producing 418 horsepower.

The vehicle also benefits from a recognizable design that connects the modern model with its original 1966 predecessor. However, nostalgia alone cannot explain a 33.7% sales increase.
Its expanding range of configurations and strong off-road credentials have helped it attract customers looking for something different from mainstream SUVs. The 2025 result confirms that the Bronco has become a major part of Ford’s American SUV business.
3. Honda Passport
Honda’s Passport achieved a remarkable milestone in 2025, recording its strongest annual sales performance since the nameplate was introduced. American Honda reported 55,231 Passport sales in the United States, representing a 69.8% increase compared with the 32,527 units sold in 2024.
This was particularly impressive because the redesigned 2026 Passport began arriving during the 2025 calendar year, generating fresh interest in Honda’s midsize SUV. The manufacturer also revealed that its TrailSport versions accounted for approximately 80% of sales of the new model.
Unlike many crossovers that prioritize urban comfort, the Passport targets customers who want additional space and genuine outdoor capability without moving to a full-size SUV. Its latest generation introduced a more rugged appearance, improved off-road equipment, and a stronger focus on adventure-oriented driving.
The TrailSport configuration is especially important because it adds specialized suspension tuning, all-terrain tires, and underbody protection.
Power comes from a 3.5-liter V6 engine producing 285 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Honda’s available i-VTM4 all-wheel-drive system further improves traction when driving on challenging surfaces.

The sales increase also highlights how effectively Honda has positioned the Passport between smaller crossovers and larger three-row SUVs. Buyers receive a spacious two-row cabin, useful cargo capacity, and off-road hardware without purchasing a considerably larger vehicle.
Its record-breaking 2025 result suggests that the updated Passport has found a strong audience among American families and outdoor enthusiasts.
4. Honda CR-V
The Honda CR-V achieved a milestone few mainstream SUVs can claim, setting a new annual sales record while already ranking among America’s best-selling vehicles. Honda reported 403,768 CR-V units sold in the United States in 2025, slightly surpassing the previous record of 402,791 units established in 2024.
Although the improvement was modest, crossing the 400,000-unit threshold for a second consecutive year demonstrates the extraordinary consistency of this compact SUV. Hybrid models accounted for approximately 54% of its 2025 sales, showing how strongly customers have embraced the electrified version.
The CR-V’s appeal is not based on one standout feature. Instead, Honda has developed a vehicle that handles several important ownership requirements without becoming unnecessarily complicated.
Its cabin provides comfortable seating, practical storage, and useful passenger space, while the cargo area accommodates groceries, luggage, and everyday family equipment.
American buyers could choose between a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 190 horsepower and a 2.0-liter hybrid powertrain delivering 204 horsepower. Front-wheel drive and available all-wheel drive provide additional configuration choices, depending on the version.

Fuel economy is another important advantage. The 2025 CR-V Hybrid offered EPA-estimated mileage of up to 43 mpg city and 36 mpg highway in the front-wheel-drive Sport Hybrid configuration. That efficiency makes it appealing to commuters who want SUV practicality without accepting the fuel consumption associated with larger vehicles.
Its record performance is especially significant because the CR-V faces intense competition from the Toyota RAV4, Chevrolet Equinox, and Hyundai Tucson. Maintaining more than 400,000 annual sales in such a crowded segment confirms its position as one of Honda’s most important American products.
5. Toyota RAV4
The Toyota RAV4 continued its dominance of America’s compact SUV market in 2025, setting another annual sales record with 479,288 vehicles sold in the United States. That represented a 0.9% increase over the 475,193 units recorded in 2024.
Although the percentage improvement appears relatively small, the achievement is significant because the RAV4 was already selling at exceptionally high volumes. Toyota also identified it as one of the company’s best-ever nameplates for annual sales.
One reason behind its continued popularity is the breadth of its appeal. The RAV4 provides the higher seating position, passenger space, and cargo flexibility expected from a compact SUV without requiring customers to purchase a substantially larger vehicle.
Its reputation for practicality has made it a familiar choice among American families, commuters, and buyers looking for a versatile daily driver.
The 2025 lineup included conventional gasoline, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid configurations. The RAV4 Hybrid was particularly important, recording 181,433 sales, while the plug-in hybrid version contributed another 20,272 units.

These figures demonstrate that electrified powertrains have become an important part of the model’s American sales performance.
Toyota’s timing was also interesting because the company was preparing its sixth-generation RAV4, which introduced a hybrid-focused lineup for the 2026 model year.
Despite the transition approaching, customers continued purchasing the outgoing generation in substantial numbers. Maintaining nearly half a million annual sales during a model changeover illustrates the strength of the RAV4 nameplate.
6. Toyota Tacoma
The Toyota Tacoma delivered one of the biggest sales increases among American pickup trucks in 2025, finishing the year with a new record.
Toyota reported 274,638 units sold in the United States, a remarkable 42.4% improvement over the 192,813 pickups recorded in 2024. The previous annual record stood at approximately 252,500 units, set in 2021, meaning the Tacoma comfortably surpassed its earlier achievement.
This result is particularly impressive considering the Tacoma operates in the midsize pickup category, where buyers often have several alternatives offering different combinations of towing ability, off-road equipment, and pricing.
Toyota’s truck has maintained a strong position in this segment for decades, and the introduction of its fourth generation for 2024 helped renew interest in the nameplate.
The 2025 Tacoma offered a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, with outputs reaching 278 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque.
Buyers seeking additional performance could select the available i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain, producing 326 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque. Depending on configuration, maximum towing capacity reached 6,500 pounds.

Its appeal extends beyond engine specifications. Toyota offers several specialized versions, including the TRD Off-Road, TRD Pro and Trailhunter, giving customers different approaches to recreational driving and demanding terrain.
The record-breaking year confirms that midsize pickups remain highly relevant in America. With nearly 275,000 deliveries, the Tacoma demonstrated that customers still value a truck offering substantial capability without the footprint of a full-size model.
7. Ford Transit
The Ford Transit closed 2025 with its strongest annual sales performance ever, demonstrating that commercial vehicles can achieve impressive results even outside the traditional pickup and SUV categories.
Ford reported 161,797 Transit van sales in the United States, representing a 5.9% increase compared with 2024. The achievement established a new annual sales record for the nameplate and reinforced Ford Pro’s position in America’s commercial vehicle market.
The Transit also retained its position as the country’s best-selling van, benefiting from continued demand among businesses, delivery operators and fleet customers.
Unlike passenger vehicles, the Transit is purchased primarily to perform a specific business function. Its appeal comes from the availability of multiple body lengths, roof heights and configurations, allowing operators to select a van suited to their individual requirements.
Cargo-focused versions serve delivery companies and tradespeople, while passenger configurations accommodate shuttle services and commercial transportation businesses.

For 2025, the Transit offered a 3.5-liter V6 gasoline engine, with an available twin-turbocharged EcoBoost alternative. Depending on configuration, customers could also select rear-wheel drive or available all-wheel drive. Its maximum gross vehicle weight rating reached 11,000 pounds in applicable configurations.
The record sales figure highlights the importance of commercial transportation in the American automotive industry. Thousands of businesses depend on reliable vans to move equipment, employees and merchandise.
Ford’s achievement shows that the Transit continues to meet those operational requirements while maintaining a commanding presence in its segment.
